The eMerge 50 and eMerge 440 now available

IEI’s latest versions of the eMerge product line – the eMerge 50 and the eMerge 440 – are now available for sale to qualified security dealers.

eMerge is a configurable, integrated security management and access control system that has the enormous advantage of geographic autonomy with its browser managed interface. Users can monitor and control multiple facilities from any web browser by connecting securely to the Internet or a corporate LAN or WAN.

Dealers who are familiar with the product reaffirm that it has the features users expect in an intuitive browser interface. Among the benefits cited by dealers are its lower training costs, lower maintenance and installation costs, and its ease-of-use. If users knew nothing about a security system, this is what they would expect from one.

Because eMerge is a network appliance, everything you need to install and manage the system is embedded within the Network Controller. There’s no server or PC, no server software, no client software, no gateways, no new communication wiring to install, no plug-in hardware adapters for connectivity, and no software compatibility issues to deal with.

The eMerge 50 is designed to bring the benefits of network architecture to basic access control applications. The eMerge 440 handles a broad range of functions such as real time monitoring, elevator control and photo ID in one integrated package.

For more information on the eMerge 50 and eMerge 440 go to http://www.ieib.com.

Dealers interested in qualifying to become a certified eMerge dealer can call IEI sales at 800-343-9502 to request a dealer application.

New Proximity Readers broaden IEI's product offering

       SR-2400                   SP-6820

The SR-2400 and the SP-6820 are two products in a new line of AWID- compatible proximity readers and credentials that IEI's access system dealers can now choose for use in eMerge system applications.

IEI's AWID-compatible products encompass a full line of readers with read ranges from 4.5 inches to 24 inches at 125 kHz. All the readers operate indoors and outdoors, and are UL listed

A full line of cards and tags are also available, including a "clamshell" style prox badge, a graphic quality ISO compliant card, a key tag, and a prox wafer to apply to existing ID cards and non-metallic objects.

The introduction of the AWID-compatible proximity readers is part of IEI’s strategy to offer the fullest range of access control products in the industry. IEI also offers a wide assortment of HID-compatible readers.

For specifications and additional information on the AWID-compatible readers, go to  http://www.ieib.com.

Technical Applications to augment your IEI access control products

You may not realize that most IEI products can often be employed in a variety of ways to take advantage of specific access control requirements. It’s part of the engineering flexibility that’s built into our keypads, readers and software. In each issue of eNews we will discuss a few of these product applications. Here are two examples of engineering flexibility that are built into the following keypads: the 212e, 242e, 212eM, and 242eM.

The Two-Man Rule and the Two-Part User
The specific keypads listed above contain a programming option that requires two users to enter their PINs before entry is granted. This two-man rule is an option that is disabled by the default. If you would like to enable this option, enter: 30 # 5 # 1 # **.

A variation of the two-man rule is the two-part user.  Two-part users are programmable user types. There are two types called Type A and Type B. these are user types 9 and 10. To gain access using this method, both a Type A and a Type B are required to enter their PINs. When the first two-part user enters their code (either the type A or the type B user) the unit’s LEDs flash red and green until the second user enters their code.

Lockout By Group
This programming option, available only on keypads listed above, allows a user to lock out specific groups of people from gaining access. To use this feature each users must be assigned to a specific lockout group from 1 to 15 (note that 0 cannot be locked out). Once assigned to one of these groups, you can choose how this feature is applied – lock out a group, lock out all other groups, lock out higher numbered groups, or lock out lower number groups.

For example, you are using a conference room to conduct a sales meeting, and you want to limit access to the room to only the sales department, not other departments. In this instance, each department would be assigned to a different numbered group. The sales department could be in group 1, engineering in group 2, manufacturing in group 3, etc. To use this feature, simply assign a lock out user to group 1 and set the lock out type to “lock out all other groups.” When the sales “lock out” user enters a PIN or presents a card, the only group allowed in the room would be those in the sales department. Each department could have a lockout user for the same purpose.
